The most recognised way to show that this has been done by a professional, competent person is to have the items Portable Appliance Tested, (PAT Tested).
Insurance companies will stipulate Portable Appliance Testing as a necessary condition of insurance on most companies.
Failure to carry out regular PAT Testing may be taken into account when arriving at a settlement figure if an incident occurs that is associated with an electrical appliance
Failure to maintain electrical devices can result in fires, electrical shock or even death.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Testing Checklist
After an initial visual equipment check has been passed, it can then be PAT Tested.
Sense use a variety of tests to carry out electrical inspection, including:
Earth continuity test
A Class 1 test that determines whether there is a sufficient earth connection between the appliances metal work and the earth pin in the plug.
Insulation resistance test
Carried out on all appliances to determine sufficient insulation from the casing of the appliance
Function test
A test to determine whether the equipment powers on
Polarity test
A test which checks the polarity of cabling in the plug head
